Admissions Process

Oak Hill School contracts with over 18 individual school districts in the bay area from as far north as Sebastopol, as far east as Concord, and as far south as Half Moon Bay. Local area school districts contract annually with Oak Hill as a certified Non-public school. The SELPA regions include the Marin SELPA; San Francisco SELPA; Northern SELPA; Sonoma SELPA; San Mateo SELPA; and West Contra Costa SELPA. The Oak Hill School admissions and placement department will assist you with answering any general questions or concerns you may have about the IEP process.

The Oak Hill admissions process is a series of conversations, information sharing, observations, and data collection conducted by a team of professionals to best understand the individual needs of your child. One quickly understands how Oak Hill is much more than a school.

The admission process starts with a tour of the school and an orientation of the philosophy, curriculum, and multidisciplinary therapeutic teams represented in each classroom. After completion and review of your application, the admissions team will schedule a time for your child to visit our campus at Oak Hill.  For the young child, this represents a play session on the playground and/or classroom. For older students, the visit represents a school tour incorporating something of special interest to the student. The multidisciplinary admissions team represents staff members who commonly work with the developmental level of your student.

Elements of the Admissions Process

  • Observations  scheduled for you, your school district, educational consultants, and/or private therapists
  • Additional observations may be conducted in your student’s current classroom or at home
  • Video may be included or requested by Oak Hill in the application process.

School placement is an important transition for the student and your family. We welcome all support professionals to participate in the admissions process. After a placement has been made, the individual/group therapeutic services necessary to support your son/daughter is determined through the IEP meeting.
